About FES-I Find a FES-I Find a Short FES-I

FES-I

Members of WP2 and WP4 initially carried out a systematic review of the literature on measures of fear of falling [link to paper measuring the psychological outcomes of falling] and two workshops in this topic, with invited experts from across Europe. We concluded that the Falls Efficacy Scale (FES) was the best validated measure currently available, but had some limitations, especially for use in different languages and cultures. We have therefore developed the Falls Efficacy Scale International (FES-I) [link to paper on the Development and initial validation of the Falls Efficacy Scale-International (FES-I)], which has initially proven just as reliable and a little more sensitive to between group differences than the original FES. The FES-I has been further validated in German and Dutch, and translated into Swiss French, Norwegian, Spanish and Greek. We are now carrying out studies to assess its sensitivity to change following an intervention. We will also be recommendations for how to manage fear of falling, based on a review of the literature.

NEW: FES-I has now been translated into Urdu, Hindi and Punjabi; to download these translations please visit the UK page.

FES-I Translations are available for free download to registered users from the Find a FES-I Page.
